The latest insight, knowledge and expertise from SRG.

Using the latest research, Russell Beck, Impellam’s Head of Consulting, delivers regular thought-provoking seminars on the very latest issues affecting the working world. Topics include attrition and motivation, managing a multi-generational workforce, consultative selling, employee engagement and the future of work; 2020 vision.

We’re currently running seminars on:

Cheshire ‘The Generation Game’ Seminar

We are approaching a time when your business will have to manage the needs and behaviours of four different generations all at once. And make no mistake, each generation behaves very differently. Baby boomers are natural leaders. Generation X are resilient and cautious. Generation Y are relaxed and instinctively creative. But what can you do to get the best out of each group? And how can you maintain harmony at the same time?

Productivity: Flexibility and Environment

Some 90% of a company’s costs are people related, so any improvement we can get in employee’s productivity will dramatically impact your bottom line.  To achieve this, we have traditionally focused a lot of effort on management, process, tools, systems and engagement. However, in focusing here, we can miss the human at the centre of it all and an appreciation of what enables them to be productive.  In a new series of seminars, we will address the fundamental importance of human beings by placing them front and centre and explore innovative ways through which businesses can maximise human productivity in the modern world.

The first seminar will look at how the how the physical environment within which we work (ie the office space) and how having the ability to work how we want to work (ie flexibility) both impact productivity.  You’ll gain a clear understanding of exactly how work environments and flexibility impact productivity, office hacks you can implement today and a methodology to enable flexible working.  Taken collectively, the independent research says these will increase employee productivity by over 250%.

The secret to better productivity may not be in the latest best-selling book on management; rather it may be in the environment within which you work and how you empower people to do the work.  Come and see why and maybe you can get just some of the 250% improvement.

Appraising the Appraisal Process

Performance evaluation is almost as old as civilised man. The performance review is part of our need for ratification. It’s part of human nature. Yet for seemingly as long as they’ve existed, appraisals have been stigmatised as a purely corporate exercise that pays lip service to performance management. This seminar looks at why appraisals have become regarded as a trap rather than a tool, what constitutes an effective performance review system and finally, the way forward.

The Future of Work; 2020 Vision

Businesses and work as we know it will change significantly over the next 5 years, so what will happen and how can we future proof our businesses and our careers? By connecting the dots in a meaningful way, this seminar will consider these facts and more. And for every point made, we will show where the future has already started to take shape, after all, ‘the future is already here'.

Attrition and Motivation

Collectively we spend a fortune on attracting, selecting and hiring staff but, often, the costs of attrition dwarf the costs of attraction. This Seminar reviews the recent research, highlights the reasons why, gives tangible insight into what you can do and defines how much impact the Line Manager has on attrition. It then builds on this and looks at what motivates people and thus how we can get them to stay.

Employee Engagement

The UK has an employee engagement problem. Only 20% of the working population are actively engaged, with the same percentage being actively disengaged. And the remainder? They can be summed up in a single word, ‘Whatever.’ Engagement is a term we all know but few can really define it, so what is it all about, and so what?

What Does Good Look Like?

Recruitment is the most important people process we have, yet very few of us are any good at it. Research shows that 5% of your workforce produces 26% of the output (the other 95% produce only 74% of your output) and that only 19% of hires are an ‘unequivocal success.’  For all its importance and for all the investment we have made why is it so hard to hire good people?  Why are we no better at hiring good people today than we were in the 1940s? This seminar will answer these questions and more.
