Laboratory Technician required for Lubricants - ManchesterJob Title - Laboratory Technician / Lubricants TechnicianLocation - ManchesterSalary £25,000 - £27,000Our client, a global leader in their field, is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and talented individual for the position of Laboratory Technician. The primary purpose of the role is to carry out the preparation and testing of lubricant samples from internal and external sources. The Technician supports the development and testing of new products and development programmes and interacts closely with Development Centre staff to ensure that all formulation data generated is to the appropriate international standards and in line with business needs. This role would be suited to an individual with a previous industrial chemistry background and testing experience. The company is happy to consider individuals from lubricants, pharmaceutical, personal care or food testingThe company are offering a 37.5 hour working week - Monday to Friday, 25 days holiday + Public holidays, a pension with up to 7% employer contribution and a genuine commitment to career developmentKey Responsibilities: * Prepare samples and conduct bench testing of a range of formulation types, including new lubricant formulations, using specialist laboratory scale equipment.* Equipment/instrumentation is typical of a lubrication test and development laboratory covering a wide range of chemical, thermal and lubricity testing e.g. viscosity, foam, water, FTIR, TGA, PDSC, 4-ball and Pin on Vee etc.* Prepare and issue sample testing reports to internal and external customers.* Liaise with external testing laboratories to schedule required testing in line with service level agreements and procedures.* Ensure that purchase orders are raised and processed to completion for all external testing work that is carried out.* Support the Applications Manager and Technologist in the development and implementation of an ISO 9001 quality system.* Contribute to and comply with the laboratory Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and Risk Assessment Systems.* Accurately record data from all testing in benchbooks, pro-formas, databases and spreadsheets and check data quality on a continuous basis. * Maintain all laboratory resources to an acceptable standard of stock level (base oil and additives), together with maintenance and calibration of specialist preparation equipment and instrumentation * Ensure that accurate records are held for the maintenance and calibration of equipment and for the supply of stock necessary for the laboratory operation.* Exercise due care and attention in working according to documented procedures and safety/housekeeping standards.* Ensure that all support is compliant with procedures and policies.* Contribute to the team meetings.You will working as part of a small team and the work will varied - it is envisaged the routine lab analysis part of the role will be minimal. The main part of the role is lubricant blending and performance testing comprising about 70% of the time. Instrument and test calibration, maintenance and SQC would be a smaller factor.Required skills or abilities:* Awareness of regulations for the safe handling of chemicals e.g. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and the ability to conduct risk assessments.* Good organization skills and the ability to work to their own daily schedule with minimal supervision.* Broad range of experience in laboratory analysis and bench testing. Experience in lubricants would be advantageous although not essential.
