Job Title: Postdoctoral Ecotoxicological Modeller

Location: Berkshire

Salary: £35000-£40000 per annum

Contract: 2-3 years

SRG are currently working with a global leading Agrochemical company who are seeking an experienced ecotoxicological modeller to commence a three year Post-doctorate Research Project at their R&D facility in Berkshire.

In ecotoxicity the received dose is measured as a net result of toxicokinetic processes (uptake, metabolism and elimination) and toxicodynamic processes within the organism (damage accrual and recovery of target sites). Combined, they determine the probability of effect or survival in organisms.

The chosen individual will apply toxicokinetic/toxicodynamic (TK/TD) modelling to conduct ecological risk assessments of pesticides. This postdoc project will improve existing models and apply them to a range of organism groups (vertebrates, invertebrates, plants) in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Experience developing mathematical models of biological systems, programming, calibration, and validation is essential. Experience with TK/TD modelling, energy budget modelling and ecotoxicology is an advantage.

Role description:

  • To apply mathematical modelling to toxicokinetic/toxicodynamic data for novel agrochemical products
  • Utilise existing literature to advance current application of models
  • Provide scientific support for risk assessments based upon TK/TD hypotheses

Role requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Mathematical, Ecotoxicological, Pharmacological or Ecological modelling
  • Experience of developing mathematical models of biological systems
  • An ability to explain complex scientific information
  • Knowledge of relevant software e.g. MatLab

The position provides valuable experience of working in industry while also offering opportunities for publishing, conference attendance, training and networking with leading scientists in industry and academia.
