Are you an experienced Analytical Chemist with strong Method Development experience? Would you like to work for a leading pharmaceutical company?

SRG are a strategic recruitment partner to a global pharmaceutical company who are looking for an Analytical to join their QC team in their facility in Ulveston. The purpose of the senior Analytical Chemist is to support required product testing in a safe and GMP and company standards, and to enable product disposition to be assigned. This may include activities such as designing/writing test protocols for methods or equipment, analysing samples or co-ordinating analysis within the team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define and write protocols for tests to be performed on equipment or test methods throughout validation lifecycles and write reports to document the outcome of such activity.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance in support of analytical equipment and laboratory IT systems according to defined SOPs and schedules as required.
  • Work collaboratively with others (internally or externally) to ensure work is completed to an agreed schedule and to the requisite GMP and safety standards.
  • Escalate, as appropriate, when agreed targets will not be met as a result of unforeseen problems or competing priorities
  • Consistently operate to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratories Practices (GLP) standards. Work in a compliant manner to ensure the safety of yourself, others and the protection of the environment
  • Identify out of specification (OOS) and out of trend (OOT) data, lead simple investigations and participate in complex investigations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective and preventative actions
  • Peer review data generated by other lab staff and approve the data for onward communication.
  • Utilise theoretical and practical knowledge to aid interpretation of results and troubleshooting of equipment and processes.
  • Use laboratory IT systems (e.g. CDS, MERPS etc.) at an advanced user level.
  • Seek, recommend, and implement continuous improvement opportunities to minimise waste and remove risk from the business
  • Collaborate, as required, with colleagues from other parts of the business or externally to ensure the interests of the business are met.
  • Contribute to the preparation of laboratories for all quality and EHS Inspections.
  • Lead level 1 inspections of own area to identify and maintain compliance standards for quality, safety, health and environmental issues.
  • Complete all actions arising from internal/external audit commitments

Key requirements

  • Technical knowledge and experience of a broad range of analytical methodologies
  • A broad based technical knowledge of most aspects of manufacturing, quality and regulatory activities and requirements both within and without the Company is essential for the role
  • Ability to trouble shoot problem analytical methods/ instrumentation and implement solutions
  • Knowledge of GMP and Quality Compliance, Validation Policy and Procedures, QMS, Company Systems, and Regulatory expectations
  • Knowledge of how APIs are manufactured and tested
  • Knowledge of and participation in inspections, audits and reviews of operations and processes
  • Knowledge of analytical investigations and root cause analysis and able to support the Quality Laboratory team during analytical investigations.
  • Able to interpret regulatory and compliance documents and provide guidance to technical, manufacturing and quality staff
  • A broad based technical knowledge of most aspects of manufacturing, quality and regulatory activities and requirements both within and without the Company is essential for the role
  • To be a self starter who deliver results within a very broad framework where activities are not well defined by past precedent and where priorities can rapidly change
  • To ensure effective communications to and from Quality staff [Site and Corporate]
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals of different scientific abilities and at different levels of the organization, including with non-scientists.
  • Effective verbal and written communication on an individual and group
