My client is a leader in drug discovery and development based in Cambridgeshire, specialising in small drug molecule discovery utilising a novel screening system. They have a pipeline of novel molecules at various stages of the drug discovery process. They are seeking a Screening Scientist on a permanent basis to run their novel screening platform.
-The identification and configuration of model screening systems through literature research of a given topic
-Develop, optimise, and validate disease cell models for screening campaigns
-Perform functional genetic screens for both internal and external projects and submit samples for Next Generation Sequencing
-Progress hits identified from screening to drug discovery
-Manage external collaborations and support junior members of staffSkills:
-PhD or equivalent with experience in pooled functional genetic screening (CRISPR, shRNA etc)
-Strong background in cancer biology or neuropathology
-Experience in mammalian tissue culture
-Experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques (lenti/retrovirus, western blot, PCR, cloning)
-Attention to detail, able to balance projects to meet the desired outcome, problem solving skills, and able to work independently in the lab
-A drug discovery background and understanding of bioinformatics (desired)
