The position of Senior Analyst is within the analytical laboratory in Oxfordshire. In this role, you will work as part of a team to undertake specialised analysis of samples using Solid Phase Extraction, as well as LC-MS/MS and GC-MS techniques. In addition, you will ensure that all results are reported via the LIMS system to agreed timescales. You will be expected to adhere to quality procedures at all times to preserve the integrity of the samples. You will be expected to undertake additional responsibilities as required.


  • To undertake sample extractions, process data, undertake second review of data and authorise test results
  • To undertake routine instrument troubleshooting and maintenance
  • To collaborate in the development and evaluation of new equipment / protocols / testing procedures, including revision of standard operating procedures
  • To ensure that all internal QA/QC programmes are implemented and to review trends / monitor performance
  • To ensure that appropriate levels of stocks are kept maintained, placing orders as required to facilitate effective and efficient use of these consumables
  • To participate in the evaluation and implementation of new methodologies / reagents and to keep abreast of any developments pertaining to the laboratory
  • To train, supervise and mentor Analysts, Trainee Analysts and new starters, including signing off competencies, and providing presentations and tutorials
  • Provide effective communication within area of responsibility relating to quality/safety and risk issues and to resolve any quality issues in a timely manner


  • Must have an appropriate science degree or comparable experience
  • Strong laboratory experience in a high through put environment
  • Experience in using SPE, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS or equivalent


  • Experience in working in an analytical toxicology environment is highly desirable


  • Aptitude for problem solving with excellent attention to detail
  • Keen interest in process improvement in method development and lab quality standards
  • Good team worker, both with direct peers and within the wider organization
  • Resilient manner, capable of working in a high-through put environment
  • Self-motivated, dynamic individual with good inter-personal skills
