Laboratory Assessor - CLASLocation Gloucestershire / Home BasedSalary circa £33,000The company are well placed in the food industry and provide scientific, technical and legislative support to the food, drinks and allied industries worldwideBenefits: Company car, 24 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, Pension scheme, Excellent training, Health Scheme and 'Death in Service' scheme, subsidised restaurant, Free parking on site Role / Description: CLAS (Campden Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) is one of the foremost accreditation schemes for food and drink laboratories in the UK with approximately 200 laboratories assessed and accredited each year (~80% UK and 20% overseas) by a dedicated team of assessors. CLAS is recognised both domestically and internationally for the quality of its audits, which reflects the high calibre of our assessors. In addition, the CLAS team supplies specialised supplementary audit programmes for individual clients, including a number of UK retailers to verify implementation of specific policies and requirements for microbiology testing.This Laboratory Assessor is a position which provides support CLAS and other laboratory based audit programmes. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and experience of food microbiology, laboratory management and laboratory quality systems who also can provide experience of auditing to recognised standards.Other duties include, but are not limited to the below information:* To conduct and deliver professional laboratory assessments.* To manage, deliver and report work to required standards and deadlines - great time management is essential.* To accurately assess the status of laboratory operations and provide valid/defendable recommendations on approval/accreditation.* To accurately review and comment on technical content of methods and suitability ofsupporting in house validation data and QC checks in relation to intended use.* To accurately assess suitability of actions to address findings raised by assessments and provide constructive feedback.* To be able to work as part of a small team or independently as required.* To be self- confident and self-motivated.* To Assimilate and process information and situations and make accurate decisions on the status of operations.* To have direct contact with clients and establish professional working relations with participating laboratories. * To be flexible to travel - predominately around the UK, however some overseas travelling will be required. Travelling is also often outside of core hours.Requirements:* Recognised qualifications in, and up to date proven knowledge and experience in food microbiology.* You must have practical experience and technical understanding of up to date standard/recognised food microbiology methods, routine testing activities and novel/commercial methods.* Extensive experience and understanding of the management and technical requirements in ISO 17025 and/or CLAS Standard - acquired by first-hand experience over several yearsa) managing/supervising, at a senior level, accredited laboratory operations andb) developing and implementing quality systems within laboratories.* Experience of planning and conducting in house method evaluations/validations,appraising data and compiling validation reports.* Trained in principle of auditing with previous proven experience of auditing quality systems against recognised Standards. * Practical/working knowledge of specific retailer requirements for microbiology laboratories desirable, but not essential.* Full and clean driving licence* Experience of driving long distances and driving to/from sites for business purposes* Must be eligible to work in the UK, and if not a UK citizen, must not have restrictions for travel and work outside the UKExcellent opportunity to work in a renowned food research organisation at the heart of the global food industrySRG is the UK's number one recruitment company specialising in the scientific, engineering, clinical, pharmaceutical, food/FMCG, energy & renewables, biotech, chemical and medical device sectors.As scientists ourselves, our specialist sector knowledge and our passion are second to none.
