Role / Description: This position is based within the Microscopy section of my clients company, which specialises sin providing scientific and legislative support to food and drink industry around the UK and Europe. This role involves the identification of foreign bodies reported from food products by consumers, and preparing a report on each sample.
You will undertake foreign body analysis using techniques such as light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray microanalysis and FT-IR spectroscopy.
Duties include:* To perform microscopic investigations of glass fragments and other foreign bodies, food packaging and food structure and other materials, using light and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray microanalysis and FT-IR analysis.* Prepare a report on any findings.* To interpret analytical data.* Book in samples and send out reports.* To work to regulatory and health and safety guidelines.Requirements:* Degree or equivalent in chemistry, analytical chemistry or similar or relevant laboratory experience.* Trained an experienced in the use of light microscopes (scanning electron microscope is desirable but not essential).* Experience using Microsoft packages - word/excel/outlook/PowerPoint.* Experience working within a laboratory environment is desirable.* Ability to work in a small team. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
